Amsterdam & A Dairy Farm

FILED IN: personal, travel

Hey, friends!

I’m going to let the photos do most of the talking in this post. However, I do want to take a few minutes to say 1) Amsterdam is a lot more than pot and the red light district, and 2) use Air B&B, for real. We stayed on the coolest farm about 30 minutes outside of the city, and we loved it so much. Our hosts were Super Hosts through Air B&B, and they were so friendly! We got in pretty late at night, and they welcomed us with cheerful faces and fresh milk. It was also the only Air B&B on our trip that had pour over coffee available, which scored big points in my book. Our host gave us a tour of their farm, sent us to breakfast in a windmill (which was delicious),  and also told us about a little town called Hoorn that was adorable and super fun to explore.

I never thought I would want to go to Amsterdam, but I really enjoyed exploring the city and seeing another culture (although I did truly hate walking through the red light district – but I won’t get into that here). All cities basically feel like cities when you’re walking through them, but I’m learning that each one has it’s own little subculture and individualities that make them so interesting. I fell in love with the architecture, the neutral paint colors, and the interconnected canals lined with houseboats winding through the city. The open boat canal tour that Chris and I took may have been little touristy, but we truly enjoyed seeing the city that way.

Enjoy the photos!

Again, I feel so incredibly lucky to have been able to experience this trip with my husband and some of our best friends. In a time where we’re really still figuring out who we’re supposed to be in this world, taking a vacation like this was such a welcome blessing.
